11 Baby Powders Contain Deadly Substance PDF Print E-mail

The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) confirmed Thursday that it had detected asbestos in baby talcum powder.

The KFDA, said 11 products including ``Nuke Baby Powder'' produced by Boryeong, one from the nation's largest baby goods producers, were found to be contaminated with asbestos ― presumably from the manufacturing process. It banned the sales of the respective products and called for a halt of the use of talc in others.

Deadline for registration: 15 March 2009
250 USD registration fee is required. This charge does NOT apply to speakers or delegates from Asian countries. There is a limited amount of funding to bring delegates to Hong Kong from Asian countries. This funding is especially for grassroots groups and invited speakers who will act as key resource people for the conference. Please apply for subsidy directly to us if you fall in this category.Click here for subsidy guidelines

Financial Support for Participants from Developing Countries especially in the Asian Region
The Organizing Committee is particularly keen to involve right persons from developing countries especially in the Asian region in the conference. We will provide financial support to help defray the whole or a part of expenses associated with conference attendance (e.g. air, ground transportation, food and hotel accommodation) to those who apply with ALL the required documents and original receipts.

 Eligibility criteria include:

1. organisations from LDC countries

2. organisations / trade unions working at grassroot levels in developing Asian countries

3. Activists, researchers from LDC and some developing Asian countries with a proven track record of activism

These are only guidelines, the final decision rests with the organisers of AAC 2009.
