A long year has passed when you shrunk deep in our hearts – a permanent place for you to live in.
During
your lifetime, you have done a great service to the Indian Working
Class. But, for few of us you were a teacher – a kind, warm, caring,
patient teacher. Crux of your teaching was how to behave. How to behave
as an individual, a comrade, an activist,and most of all a human being. How an organization
should behave with their staff, with society in general and
particularly with the people for whom they claim to work for.
You were a JOINER.
Your efforts were aimed at joining organizations with people, joining
activists with organizations, joining organizations with other
organizations.
You
would identify people for the movement. You would
recruit-train-assist-build capacity-trust- and care for one to settle
and progress. You would play a role of friend, philosopher and guide.
You
always assured that poor are benefited with education, jobs, money. You
were unpaid adviser for hundreds. Your practical advice, suggestion and
guidance helped them make their life more comfortable.
You
were best in making friends – from a riksha driver to the neighbors, to
the staff of the organization. You would maintain similar behavioral
standards for both – head of the organization to the peon.
I
do not know how much I have learnt form you- my not an ounce, still you
made a great difference to me. Our first meeting in August '85 at your
Borivli flat was turning point of my life. It was the confidence you
filled me with, has helped me continue the mission in your absence.
In
last one year we have missed you on all the occasions – National
Consultation on Silicosis at Baroda, ANROAV Annual Conference, OHS
Training at Baorda and OHS Training at Chennai recently.
We
still miss you greatly. There is no one who can bind us together. You
were always exploring new areas, new relations, new alliances, new
strategies to sustain the movement.
We
know what you dreamt of. I do not boast of anything. No, we have
nothing much to our credit. But, I assure you, we have not given up. We
have kept the wheel moving with great hope. OHSC is working with same
vigor, PTRC, OHSA and ANROAV playing their own role. OEHNI discussion
group is alive with large membership.
Together we salute you, dear Friend, in memory of the warmth and affection you spared for us.
